Assessments & Life-Coaching

As important as it is, a college degree by itself probably will not get you where you want to go in life.

Let Rivendell’s professional staff help you reach your full potential through a variety of personality, motivation, and behavior assessments, combined strategically with certified life-coaching designed to interface with your unique work and life-related situations.

Please look -- we don’t think you will find another degree completion program with this kind of training!

Every student in the Leadership and Organizational Behavior major will complete the following assessments and will engage in 100-110 hours over a two-year period with a certified life coach in individual and small group cohorts via remote audio and visual technology. Special consideration and application will be given to work and life-related situations.

Students take the EQ-I assessment twice. Life-coaching is given strategically for growth in areas discovered in the student's first EQ-I assessment. The second assessment is a “360” evaluation that includes up to 50 others whom the student knows and with whom he or she works. This second assessment serves as a benchmark of the student's growth, with follow-up coaching.

DISC - DISC is the universal language of observable human behavior. By developing a strong command of the DISC language, individuals will

  • Know their behavioral style

  • Recognize the behavioral style of others.

  • Adapt and blend their style for greater, more effective communication and relationships

Scientific research has proven that people, in terms of 'how they act,' universally have similar characteristics. By learning these characteristics, we can increase communication; therefore, increasing our understanding of each other, which is crucial to effective leadership.

EQ-I Baron Emotional Quotient Inventory - According to Dr. Reuven Baron, the developer of this assessment, “Emotional Intelligence is valuable in team development (and hence, leadership) since a large part of effective and smooth teamwork comes from knowing each member's strengths and weaknesses and leveraging those strengths whenever possible. Pinpointing and sharing this kind of information can prove to be a bonding experience that unifies, synchronizes, or strengthens the group.”

Emotional intelligence and emotional skills develop over time, change throughout life, and can be improved upon through coaching. The fifteen conceptual components of emotional intelligence that are measured by this instrument's subscales are as follows: Self-regard, Emotional Self-awareness, Assertiveness, Independence, Self-Actualization, Empathy, Social Responsibility, Interpersonal Relationship, Reality Testing, Flexibility, Problem Solving, Stress Tolerance, Impulse Control, Optimism, and Happiness.

PIA&V - Personality, Interests, Attitudes and Values - This assessment measures the relative prominence of six basic interests or attitudes (ways of valuing life): Theoretical, Utilitarian, Aesthetic, Social, Individualistic and Traditional. These attitudes and related passion they arouse are often the hidden motivators that help to initiate behavior. The feedback received from this assessment shows the top two or three attitudes that cause a person to move into action. Having an understanding of these attitudes provides a tool with which to build on the strengths a person brings to his or her work environment.

MAPP - Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential - The MAPP assessment utilizes the “Worker Trait Code System,” which has been in use for over 30 years and has proven to be an outstanding vocational tool for identifying jobs, classifying job requirements, and understanding human motivation. This assessment is often used in career identification, but also has proven value in providing individuals with a method to identify their motivations and to improve their odds at success. Traits are scored on a 1-5 scale, which determine the level of motivation the trait has for the person, from those that are so motivating they are almost compulsive to those that are aversions.

Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment - Available as an online assessment included in the purchase of either of two books, a secular title: Now, Discover Your Strengths, or the book Living Your Strengths: Discover Your God-Given Talents and Inspire Your Community. Developed by the Gallup Organization, StrengthsFinder is a Web-based assessment of normal personality from the perspective of Positive Psychology. It is the first assessment instrument of this type developed expressly for the Internet.

After taking a forty-minute StrengthsFinder assessment, the participant will immediately be able to find out the result of the assessment and see his/her Top Five Signature Themes (strengths). The books then provide ways those strengths can be used, as opposed to focusing on building up areas of personal weakness.
